More than 500 "children of war" cheered as they received bicycles, school supplies, stuffed toys, and candies in exchange for their toy guns in Tuburan Proper, Mohammad Adjul town in Basilan on Friday.

The gift-giving program, organized by Save the Children of War Foundation, include children caught in the conflict in parts of Mindanao.

According to Save the Children of War, the kids were placed under psychological assessment.

Some of them reportedly are children of members of Islamic State-linked militant groups that took the town of Tuburan Proper.

Mohammad Adjul Mayor Ibrahim Ballaho said the militants were either killed or captured, leaving their children alone to fend for themselves.

Peace Process Presidential Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. "adopted" 500 of these kids, promising to help them until they become responsible for their communities.

An alumni association donated a playground set for the children.
