MANILA - A Filipino migrant workers' group filed an ethics complaint on Thursday against the lawmaker who drew flak for scolding and confiscating the ID of an airport security staff.

Members of Migrante went to the House ethics committee to file the complaint against ACTS OFW party-list Rep. John Bertiz III for his alleged misconduct in connection with several incidents.

Bertiz recently apologized for scolding the airport security staff who asked him to take off his shoes at the checkpoint of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The Office for Transportation Security said Bertiz clearly violated airport security protocols during the incident.

A week before that, Bertiz also drew flak on social media for joking that agriculture and biosystems engineers who recently passed the board exam would not get their licenses if they do not know President Rodrigo Duterte's top aide. He has already apologized for his joke.

Some members of Migrante also had a bad experience with Bertiz in January 2017 when the lawmaker went uninvited to the group's supposed dialogue with labor officials in Hong Kong.

A video of the incident showed Bertiz shouting at the leader of Migrante, Eman Villanueva, who politely asked him to cut short his speech so they could proceed with the scheduled dialogue.

Bertiz said he had already apologized to the Migrante leader and its members in Hong Kong but Villanueva refuted this, saying they have not heard from the lawmaker.
