MANILA - The LRT-2 has suspended operations for Friday, October 4, due to the damage it sustained Thursday after a power transformer caught fire.
"Several technical and safety concerns prevent the resumption of any passenger operations,” said Light Rail Transit Authority Spokesperson Hernando Cabrera.
The LRT-2 power transformer along Katipunan Avenue "tripped" and emitted smoke, according to Cabrera.
The transit line, which runs from Santolan in Pasig City to Recto in Manila, immediately suspended its operations for the rest of the day after the fire. No one was reported injured.
On Wednesday morning, the LRT-2 also stopped operations for 30 minutes due to "train fault."
Meanwhile, the LRT-1, which runs from Pasay to Caloocan, closed its Balintawak and Roosevelt stations due to "mechanical issues" that are "being checked by technicians onsite."
