MANDAUE, Cebu - A former village councilor here was shot dead Tuesday while on his way to drop his daughter off to school, police said.

CCTV footage showed that while Jerome Suson Flores was driving with his 13-year-old daughter on a motorcycle, two men also on a motorcycle followed them from home.

The two men, both wearing helmets, gunned down Flores after they reached a certain street. The suspects again shot Flores as he laid bloodied on the street. His daughter ran for cover.

The gunmen immediately fled the scene.

Police Col. Jonathan Abella, director of Mandaue City Police, said Flores may have had an encounter with personal enemies, noting that his history included land squabbles.

"We are also looking into his work as a former councilor," added Abella.

The victim was a former councilor of Barangay Pagsabungan.

The family is now seeking justice for Flores, especially that his daughter is still in trauma.

"Why my dad?" his daughter asked.
