MANILA - A party-list lawmaker who was caught on video snatching the ID of an airport screener who questioned him about his refusal to remove his shoes said Tuesday he is returning the access pass given to him by the Manila International Airport Authority to show his sincere apology.
ACTS OFW party-list Rep. Aniceto "John" Bertiz III, who again apologized for the way he acted at the airport, said he would also want to personally say sorry to the security personnel he scolded.
"Ipapa-surrender ko na 'to. To be fair, I don't want my fellow congressmen and other holders of my ID na madamay pa," the lawmaker said.
Bertiz explained that he only showed his access pass to the security personnel because it was the only ID in his bag at that time. But he said he never used it unless for official business.
MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal had earlier clarified that the access pass given to officials is no license to violate airport protocols.
The lawmaker is now facing an ethics complaint at the House of Representatives in connection with the incident.
"Patawarin mo ako sa aking inasal. Hindi tama 'yun para sa isang kinatawan ng gobyerno," he said, addressing the security officer he scolded at the airport.
