MANILA - Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go on Monday reminded his friend ACTS OFW party-list Rep. Aniceto "John" Bertiz III that there is no room for special treatment among government employees and officials.
"As government officials, we were never exempted from adhering to such. In fact, the President himself will not ask us to be spared from yielding to authority and respecting the law. Ibig sabihin walang exemption at dapat tayo sumunod sa batas," he said in a statement.
Bertiz is under fire after caught in a video disobeying security protocol and harassing a personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
"Security checks in the airports are for our safety. That’s why everyone must adhere to the rules. We must set a good example. No one is exempted from the rules," Go added.
Though he is friends with Bertiz, Go said he doesn't condone acts unbecoming a public servant.
"While it is true that Congressman Bertiz is a friend, I do not have control over what he says and does. He should be the one to explain the truth behind the video that went viral," he said.
In a press conference, Bertiz likened his action to getting a woman's menstrual period.
"Once a year, we get this monthly period. I'm just human, fragile. I get hot-headed and stressed from work," he said.
Bertiz added that his much-publicized security row with an airport personnel was a wake up call.
Just last week, he also drew flak for joking that a new batch of engineers will not get their licenses if they do not know Go.
Bertiz also figured in a shouting match with migrant group leader Eman Villanueva in Hong Kong in January 2017. The incident was caught on video that also went viral.
He may face an ethics complaint at the House of Representatives.
