MANILA - "You know how much I love you grandma. Kiss! Kiss Kiss!"

So said a note left by a grandchild of the late former Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago at her wake in Quezon City on Sunday.

The message, signed by Charles Rotoni Santiago, also bore a sketch supposedly of the veteran lawmaker, with the phrase "#ThankYouMiriam" underneath.

The note was among a deluge of messages left by Santiago's supporters before the public viewing of her remains at Immaculate Conception Cathedral closed at 11 a.m. today.

A mass will be held for Santiago at the Cubao Cathedral at 1 p.m. before her remains are transferred to the Loyola Memorial Chapel and Crematorium in Marikina, where she will be buried beside her son, Alexander.

Santiago died in her sleep on Thursday, after two years of battling lung cancer. -- Report from Zhander Cayabyab, DZMM
