MANILA - Malacañang on Monday expressed elation over the recovery of President Rodrigo Duterte’s net satisfaction rating in the latest Social Weather Stations survey, saying the chief executive’s critics failed at damaging his popularity.
The SWS survey, conducted from September 15 to 23, found that 70 percent of adult Filipinos were satisfied with Duterte's performance and 16 percent dissatisfied, resulting in a +54 net satisfaction rating which is 9 points higher than the +45 score last June.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the President’s critics seem to have run out of things to say against the President when they blamed the chief executive for the supposed sense of entitlement being displayed by some of his allies.
Roque was referring to the incident involving ACTS OFW party-list Rep. Aniceto "John" Bertiz III who was criticized for allegedly disobeying security protocol and harassing a personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
“Katunayan na wala na silang mabatong isyu kasi umakyat na naman ang rating ng presidente to very good. Akala nila nagtagumpay na sila na sumadsad na ang ratings. Sorry na lang sila,” Roque said in a Palace press briefing.
Former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay said the incident involving Bertiz showed that Duterte failed to be a good example to those in government.
"One of the most important functions of leadership is setting both the tone and standard for publicly acceptable behavior. Kung barubal ugali sa taas, yung mga kaalyado sa gilid at baba pakiramdam may lisensyang gumaya, ‘di ba?” Hilbay said on Twitter.
Duterte’s net satisfaction rating reached its lowest in the survey of the SWS in the previous quarter. He also suffered double-digit drops in his approval and trust ratings in the latest Pulse Asia survey.
In a radio interview, Roque said while the Palace welcomes the improvement in Duterte’s ratings, the President does not put too much attention on these.
“Gayun pa man ay nagagalak siyempre po tayo at very good na naman ang Presidente. Ibig sabihin po, sa kabila ng lahat ng paghamon – inflation, kakulangan ng bigas ng NFA – ay nakumbinse naman natin ang taumbayan na hindi natutulog sa pansitan ang ating Presidente,” Roque said.
[We are glad that his rating is at 'very good' again. Despite all the challenges he is facing, inflation, rice shortage, we have convinced the public that the president is at work.]
