MANILA—Former presidents Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Joseph Estrada on Saturday crossed paths as they visited the house of late Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ciriaco Calalang.
House Speaker Arroyo conducted a medical mission in Sampaloc, Manila with the Kabayan Party-list and relatives of Calalang. Manila Mayor Estrada, meanwhile, visited the house of Calalang.
In a statement, the party-list said a medical team of more than 20 doctors, health professionals, and volunteers participated in the outreach, which also included free legal consultation.
Ciriaco "loved the hustle and bustle of Sampaloc", according to his son, Atty. Joseph Calalang.
"For him, Sampaloc was a happening place, alive at day and night," he said in a statement.
Calalang also praised his father's choice to adopt, which was brought up by Arroyo in her eulogy for Ciriaco.
"Adoption is a deliberate choice and selfless commitment to love, as a parent, the children of someone else. This choice is what our adoptive father made,” he said.
Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo and the younger Calalang said they want Sampaloc to "continue being the lively heart of Manila and that means 'making sure health care and social services are delivered in the area consistently and effectively.'"
