MANILA--The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) will not resume vote registration on October 3.
"We can only resume registration after the law postponing the Barangay and SK elections has been passed," COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez said.
Jimenez added that they hope to release an official resolution on the resumption of voter registration in a week or two.
Pursuant to Republic Act 8189 or the Voters' Registration Act of 1996, the commission will conduct another round of registration period after Congress approved the postponement of the 2016 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to October 23, 2017.
COMELEC earlier said that it will resume voters' registration on October 3, and end on April 29, 2017.
The commission had expected 2 million additional voters for the SK elections and 3 million for the barangay elections.
