PAGASA monitoring tropical depression; to enter PAR as 'Onyok'

MANILA - The state weather bureau is monitoring a weather system, which will be called "Onyok" once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) in the next 24 hours.

As of 10 a.m., the center of the tropical depression was at 1,410 kilometers east of Visayas or still outside PAR, according to PAGASA. 

Weather forecaster Lorie Dela Cruz said Onyok is not expected to make landfall in any part of the country.

The storm is moving west northwest at 30 kilometers per hour, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

Based on its track, the storm is expected to be in the vicinity of Borongan City, Eastern Samar by Saturday morning and will move towards Basco, Batanes by Sunday morning.
