Alleged Abu Sayyaf cries mistaken identity

ZAMBOANGA CITY - An alleged Abu Sayyaf member who was arrested on kidnapping charges here said he was not the bandit authorities claimed him to be.

The suspect, who authorities identified as Abdul Baliyung, an alleged henchman of bandit leader Isnilon Hapilo, said his name is Mohammad Sabdula.

The man was arrested for kidnapping and serious illegal detention over the 2001 kidnapping of at least 15 rubber plantation workers in Lantawan, Basilan, said Chief Inspector Elmer Solon, chief of the Zamboanga City police station 4.

The man, who claims to be a security guard, said police assets could have mistaken him for a bandit.
