Magnitude 5.1 quake strikes off Surigao, aftershocks expected

MANILA - A magnitude 5.1 earthquake rattled Surigao Del Norte province on Tuesday, bringing the threat of possible aftershocks, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tectonic tremor struck past 10 a.m. at a depth of 5 kilometers. Its epicenter was located in waters 55 kilometers northeast of Burgos town, Phivolcs said.

No major damage was expected from the quake, the seismology office said.
