MANILA- President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered a “thorough” investigation into the fatal collapse of a portion of a Sogo Hotel branch in Malate, Manila which left 2 workers dead, Malacañang said Tuesday.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the Palace is “shocked and saddened” over the motel’s collapse, as he urged concerned offices to coordinate with the Manila City government.
“President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has already ordered a thorough investigation and we ask concerned authorities to coordinate with the City Government of Manila, particularly the Manila City Engineering Office, for the conduct of the probe,” he said.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno earlier ordered an investigation into the incident as well to determine liability. The Palace also commended Moreno for his swift response to inspect the hotel.
A foreman said a total of 22 people were working inside the hotel when it collapsed at around 9 a.m. Monday. Rescuers had to use a crane to pull out the bodies of 2 workers trapped under the rubble.
