MANILA – A German convicted of pedophilia in his homeland was recently arrested in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental, the Bureau of Immigration said Tuesday.

Alfons Hermann Keittl, 71, was convicted of pedophilia by a court in Landshut, Germany last July. The BI said Keittl arrived in the Philippines as a tourist on May 8.

“We will deport him immediately as his presence here poses a serious threat to the lives and safety of our Filipino children,” BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said.

Morente added the BI will also blacklist Keittl.

The German embassy in Manila said Keittl was convicted of committing aggravated child abuse against 3 different victims and, in more than 200 other cases, was found to have possessed hundreds of child pornographic images and videos.

He also allegedly violated the conditions of his probation by disobeying a court order for him not to come within 100 meters of schools, swimming pools and other facilities frequented by children, the BI said.

The Philippines has become one of the countries of focus when it comes to cases of child abuse and pedophilia.

Online sexual exploitation remains prevalent in the Philippines, with victims, mostly minors, being lured into the trade by their own relatives, case files from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) showed.

Filipino victims have fallen prey to sexual predators from around the world, with the cybersex trade becoming a livelihood for poor families as fees range from $20 to $50 (about P1,000 to P2,600) per session or per week.

Some 80 percent of victims are minors, and half of this chunk are 12 years or younger, data from the International Justice Mission- Philippines showed.
