MANILA - Former Vice President Jejomar Binay Sr. will run for Congress in the 2019 polls, his spokesperson confirmed on Monday.
Joey Salgado, Binay's spokesman, said the former vice president will be running to represent the first district of Makati.
"I am confirming that former VP Binay will run as Representative for the First District," he said in a statement.
Incumbent Makati Mayor Abby Binay had also announced on Monday her intention to seek reelection in the upcoming elections, he added.
The younger Binay earlier said she believes her father has long retired from politics since losing in the 2016 presidential race.
She also said earlier that she has the support of her father in her reelection bid in light of reports of a Binay-versus-Binay scenario.
Earlier reports said the incumbent Binay may possibly be challenged by her own brother, former Mayor Jejomar "Jun-Jun" Binay Jr.
The other daughter of the former vice president, Nancy Binay, is an incumbent senator.
