MANILA - Detained Senator Leila de Lima on Monday filed a bill that seeks to protect licensed or accredited volunteers responding during times of disaster.
The proposed Emergency Volunteer Protection Act of 2018 emphasizes the need to have a mechanism to protect volunteers from possible charges.
Under the bill, qualified volunteers will also be provided with mandatory insurance on disability, medical attention, and death benefits.
De Lima said it was time to give protection to the volunteers who have been significant in their help every time disasters hit the country.
