Text scam uses Inday Sara's name

DAVAO CITY - The office of Mayor Sara Duterte has warned the public over a text scam that uses her name to solicit money, allegedly for victims of a recent typhoon in Batanes province.

The text message, which was sent to several individuals, was traced to a certain Nathan Garanzo, who introduced himself as a member of the mayor's staff, according to a post on the Davao City government's Facebook page.

"The office of Mayor Inday Sara wishes to inform the public that she has not authorized anyone to solicit money on her behalf nor is she involved in any fundraising activity," according to the statement.

The statement added that donations for the victims of a bomb attack in the city last month were either directly received by families of the victims, the city government through its account with the Land Bank of the Philippines.

As series of text exchanges posted on the city government Facebook page showed that if a person replies to the scam text, he or she will be given the bank account details of an alleged member of the mayor's finance team, a certain Rechie Banduriao.
