MANILA - Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ciriaco “Acoy” Calalang passed away on Sunday. He was 67.

He succumbed to a massive stroke at the De Los Santos Medical Center, where he underwent surgery last Monday, the Kabayan party-list said in a statement.

Calalang, a law professor and taxation lawyer, was sworn in as congressman in January after one of 2 Kabayan seats in Congress was vacated by then representative Harry Roque, who was tapped as Presidential Spokesperson.

The late lawmaker authored and co-authored 47 House measures and helped raise awareness on juvenile justice, education and public transportation, among others, said Kabayan chair and Rep. Ron Salo.

"Rep. Calalang's public service as a Congressman was brief but it was time and energies well-spent... [He] was the good, favorite uncle within KABAYAN. We will miss him dearly," Salo said in a statement.

Calalang's wake will be held at the St. Peter Memorial Chapels along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City starting Wednesday, his party-list said.

He is survived by his 3 adopted children: Atty. Joseph Ivan Calalang, Carissa Calalang, and Carlo Calalang.
