MANILA - Three members of the Abu Sayyaf terror group surrendered to authorities in Basilan on Saturday, the military said.

Khadaffy Kalitut, Aliman Langkasan and Jiyad Arabin turned themselves in to the 18th Infantry Battalion in Ungkaya Pukan town, and handed over their firearms.

The surrender was facilitated by a barangay chairman.

Kalitut was designated as a subleader.

"We are happy that most of the ASG members are now willing to work with us in our quest for peace. They are longing for a good and progressive life with their loved ones," said Lt. Col. Ivan San Jose, commander of 18th Infantry Battalion.

According to Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Western Mindanao Command: "With all the programs and projects we implemented to assist our brothers and sisters who decided to return to the mainstream of society, we expect for more surrenderors in the coming days."
