BAGUIO CITY – A manicurist who was allegedly on Baguio City police's drug watch list was shot dead here Thursday morning by an unidentified gunman.

Chona Oliveros, 47, died due to a gunshot wound in the head.

Although Oliveros was on their watch list, police said they are investigating if her death was drug-related.

According to a witness who requested anonymity, the gunman approached just as Oliveros was finishing her work.

"Mina-manicure niya ako. Nung patapos na, lalagyan na niya ako ng Cutex sa paa, biglang may lumapit sa kanya na lalaki. Tinutukan siya ng baril sa ulo (She was almost done with my manicure and was about to place Cutex on my feet, when a man approached and pointed a gun at her)," the customer said.

The gunman was heavily built and was wearing a face muffler to hide his features, the customer said.

"Nakita ko yung katawan niya, medyo mataba siya, tsaka may muffler, di ko na po namukhaan (He was a bit fat, and was wearing a muffler. I did not recognize him)."

Oliveros' 5-year-old child and her husband, who asked that his name be withheld, were with the victim when she was killed.

"Nasa tabi kami niya. Iyong anak ko naglalaro, tapos nung nakarinig ng putok ng baril yung bata, tumakbo yung anak namin. Nakita ko nalang siyang nakabulagta na sa sahig (We were with her. Our son was playing. He ran away when he heard a gunshot. I saw her lying on the ground)," he said.

Oliveros' husband denied knowing anyone who had a grudge against his wife, but admitted that she used drugs two years ago.

"Matagal na siyang nagbago. Ngayong nagma-manicure na lang siya, ganyan naman ginawa sa kanya (She changed her ways a long time ago. They did this to her now, when she was already working as a manicurist)," he said.
