MANILA - Authorities on Friday arrested a jailer of the Northern Police District (NPD) for allegedly extorting money from detainees.
The PNP Counter Intelligence Task Force nabbed PO1 Alexis Domingo after it received a complaint from Jerico Silvestre, who was detained by the NPD's District Drug Enforcement Unit last August 23.
Silvestre said Domingo asked for P5,000 in exchange for VIP treatment in the custodial facility.
The VIP treatment meant he would be placed in front of others inside the jail cell where it is less cramped and where air circulation is better.
Silvestre said the suspect also asked for an additional P7,000 for him to be transferred to the Quezon City Jail, where he would wait for the commitment order related to his drug case.
Domingo denied the allegations and said he never accepted money from anyone.
He will be charged with robbery extortion.
NPD Director Chief Supt. Gregorio Lim has ordered 11 personnel of the District Drug Enforcement Unit including their chief, Senior Insp. Leo Tomas, to be relieved after Domingo's arrest.
