SANTIAGO CITY - A 19-year-old student was arrested after making a bomb joke at a mall in Santiago City, Isabela.
Nick Andres told a mall security guard that he has a bomb inside his bag. This prompted the mall security to call on members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.
No bomb or any kind of explosives were found inside the bag.
Andres regrets joking about the bomb, revealing it was not his first time cracking the same joke in public. He said he is unaware of the existing Presidential Decree 1727 or the Anti Bomb Joke Law.
Under the decree, making bomb jokes or bomb threats is considered a crime. It is punishable by up to five years imprisonment and a fine of up to P40,000.
Two weeks ago, a mall goer was arrested in Cauayan City, Isabela after cracking a bomb joke at a mall.
Police warned the public not to make a joke out of a serious matter like bombings.
The country is still under a state of national emergency following the Davao blast earlier this month.
