MAGUINDANAO – Three unexploded grenades were found by authorities inside an elementary school in Barangay Nituan, Parang, Maguindanao on Tuesday afternoon.
According to bystanders, they saw several men riding two motorcycles throw the grenades at the school.
"Iyong isa doon, dummy, pero yung dalawa, sasabog talaga. Hindi lang sumabog kasi baka akala nung mga nagtapon noon ay nahugot na yung safety pin. Baka nagmamadali, tinapon agad (One grenade was a dummy, but the other two would have exploded if the suspects remembered to remove the safety pins. They may have been in a hurry and forgot to do so before they threw the grenades)," Parang Police Chief Police Senior Inspector Erwin Tabora said.
The authorities also said they have yet to determine the motive and target of the attack as the school’s administration denied receiving any threats.
However, there were reports of attacks planned in Parang, Tabora said.
"Posible baka may mga sumasakay, pero may mga natanggap tayo na may papasabugin. Pwedeng ito, pwede ring hindi (It's possible that people are riding on the reports, but we received information that there are attacks planned in Parang. It's possible that this is part of that, but it can also be separate)," he said.
The perpetrators have so far eluded the authorities, who have beefed up security in Parang and neighboring towns amid threats of attacks in the area.
