British pilot dies in small-plane crash in Pampanga

MANILA (2nd UPDATE) - A British man died after the plane he was flying crashed in a ricefield in Arayat town, Pampanga on Friday.

Mark Hogget, 55, died instantly after his two-seat aircraft crashed in Barangay Lapaz Turu around 3 p.m.

Hogget was found meters away from the crash site.

Witnesses said they saw the plane turn around and slowly descend before crashing.

Authorities said Hogget, who was a resident of Tarlac City, took off from a flying school in Magalang town around 2 p.m.

Eric Apolonio, spokesperson of Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, said his office does not issue flight clearances for light aircraft.
