MANILA- President Rodrigo Duterte will fly to Russia anew next month upon the invitation of his “favorite hero” Vladimir Putin, Malacañang confirmed Wednesday.

Duterte has already accepted the invitation and would likely be in Moscow by the first week of October, his spokesman Salvador Panelo said.

“Ang sabi niya (Duterte) ay inimbitahan siya ni Russian President at tinanggap na niya. Ia-announce niya na lang kung ano ang mangyayari doon,” Panelo said.

(He said he was invited by the Russian President and that he accepted the invitation. He will just announce what will happen there.)

Duterte’s second visit to Russia could mean “further improved relations between the 2 countries,” Panelo said.

The Philippine leader met Putin in May 2017 but had to cut his supposed weeklong stay in Russia after ISIS-inspired local terror group Maute attacked parts of Marawi City. Duterte subsequently placed Mindanao under martial law.
