MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen his next military chief, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said Thursday.

Lt. Gen. Noel Clement, who currently heads the Central Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), will replace outgoing AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr.

Madrigal, 56, will step down from his post next week due to retirement.

Prior to his position in the AFP Central Command, Clement led the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division, which has jurisdiction over Davao Region, Duterte's home province.
