MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte will lead the roster of principal sponsors at Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III's upcoming wedding with fiancee Ma. Anna Kathryna Yu.
The couple revealed their principal sponsors in an interview with Ricky Lo published in the Philippine Star Wednesday.
Aside from Duterte, Senate President Vicente Sotto and wife, Helen Gamboa-Sotto, Senator Manny Pacquiao and wife Jinkee Pacquiao, Leyte Representative Yedda Marie Romualdez, Representative Pantaleon Alvarez and Special Assistant to the President Christopher "Bong" Go, among others, will also stand as principal sponsors in Pimentel and Yu's civil wedding to be held on October 18, 2018 at the Coconut Palace.
When asked about the significance of wedding date, Pimentel said it was on this same date 5 years ago that he felt they had a "connection."
"That's the date in 2013 that we believe we made a 'connection,' when our eyes met, when I made it clear to her that I liked her," Pimentel said.
October is also Yu's birth month, he added.
According to Pimentel, he wanted to marry Yu a long time ago, but he had to deal with his previous marriage first.
"I had wanted to marry her long ago but I had to first fix my 'situation'," he told Lo, adding he proposed to Yu during their Valentine's Day dinner earlier this year.
Pimentel officially announced his separation from his wife, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 1998 Jewel May Lobaton, in May 2012.
They were married for nearly 12 years and have two sons.
The couple has yet to plan their honeymoon because they decided to postpone it until the 2019 mid-term election is over.
Pimentel is running for re-election.
According to Yu, she is ready for the challenges of being the wife of a politician, and is excited to campaign for Pimentel.
"I am raring to campaign for Senator Koko, and it will be the very first time for me to be involved in an election," Yu said.
Both Yu and Pimentel will be wearing designs by Paul Cabral.
Pimentel's sons will be the ring and Bible bearers.
