DAVAO CITY - After the Philippine National Police (PNP) cracked down on overweight policemen, almost 1,000 cops from Police Regional Office (PRO) XI have accepted the workout challenge to comply with the 34-inch waistline requirement.
Police officers here went through a series of exercises such as jogging, arm workout and boxing at the launch of the Fit Filipino nationwide weight loss challenge.
PNP PRO XI said engaging in such activities improve discipline and enhance officers' skills in apprehending criminals.
Police Officer 1 Daryl Salces said losing weight could help him better perform his job.
The 4-minute workout is part of the advocacy by fitness enthusiasts to make Filipinos healthier and fitter. It aims to burn a collective 1 million pounds among participants by the end of the 6-month program, which began on June 6 and will end on December 5.
Meanwhile, the PNP created its own "Mission: Slim Possible" as an answer to the nationwide weight loss campaign.
The force pledged a total 500,000 lbs or 227,000 kilos of weight loss for the entire police force.
Renowned fitness instructors Jim and Toni Saret spearheaded the program Monday.
