MANILA - The Philippine capital's top official ordered the closure of two major malls in 72 hours if the establishments' stalls continued selling stolen mobile phones.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso "threatened to close the entire Tutuban Mall and Isetann Mall Recto in 72 hours if they continue to coddle vendors who buy and sell stolen mobile phones," according to an alert issued on the city's Facebook page.
Both malls house dozens of kiosks selling 2nd-hand mobile phones and brand new cellular accessories.
The alert also noted that "the warning was also issued to all malls in the nation’s capital."
Since assuming office, Moreno has sought to clean up the city and impose discipline on citizens, hosing down a grimy monument and clearing roads clogged with vendors and illegal structures, earning him praise from fellow government officials, diplomats, and the public.
