MANILA - The local government of Marikina City lifted Sunday the warning on the Marikina river as water level subsided
The water level subsided to 14.2 meters from 16 meters late Saturday, when authorities raised the second alarm due to rains from Typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut).
It was downgraded to first alarm past 1 a.m. Sunday after Ompong left the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Ompong, the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines this year, smashed through northern Luzon early Saturday and forced thousands to evacuation centers.
Weather conditions will improve by Monday, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
