MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday inspected damage wrought by Typhoon Ompong in Cagayan province, according to pictures released by his chief aide.
Duterte was seated beside Special Assistant Bong Go on an aircraft, from which the saw a swollen river and damaged houses. Go released pictures of the inspection to Malacanang reporters.
The President is expected to visit Cagayan, according to Presidential Political Adviser Francis Tolentino, who also said up to 25 people died from the storm, mostly due to landslides.
Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba said earlier Sunday that he was planning to declare a state of calamity in the province.
Ompong, this year's strongest storm so far, lashed Luzon on Saturday, triggering floods and landslides that displaced thousands. -- report from Pia Gutierrez, ABS-CBN News
