Wrapped in embrace: Town councilor, 2 others found dead in Negros Occ

MURCIA, Negros Occidental - A town councilor and two others are believed to have been killed by armed men after their bodies were found in Sitio Lilo, Barangay Lopez Jaena in this town on Friday morning.

The body of the woman identified as Leah Mae Canoy was seen embracing the body of Eden Bacordo, a Sangguniang Bayan member of Salvador Benedicto town, when authorities arrived at the crime scene. 

Another body was found a few meters away from Canoy and Bacordo's cadavers, and is believed to be that of Bacordo's bodyguard. 

Sr. Insp. Ronald Santillan, chief of Murcia police said witnesses claimed the 3 had breakfast at the home of Canoy's aunt near the crime scene.

Bacordo was about to leave the place when armed men fired shots at him. He ran back to the area where they had breakfast and found that were also gunmen waiting for him there.

A witness who refused to be identified said she saw 4 gunmen wearing bonnets and carrying long firearms. They fired at the victims and immediately left the place. 

Empty shells of M-16 riffle were found at the crime scene. 

Willy Bacordo, the victim's cousin, claimed the councilor attended a court hearing on Thursday and failed to return home.

He added that his cousin told him he has been receiving death threats in relation to the case he was facing but the latter refused to give details. 

Investigators are still determining the motive of the slays and the identity of the suspects.
