MANILA - Allegations that some of the security personnel of former House Speaker Prospero Nograles were killed by the "Davao Death Squad" (DDS) were dismissed by his son Davao City Representative Karlo Alexei Nograles, Thursday.
"From the time I was chief-of-staff of former Speaker Prospero C. Nograles to the time I was elected as congressman, no supporter of ours or persons under our employ was ever killed due to politics," Nograles said in a statement.
The Nograles scion explained that political differences in Davao City have always been limited to "differences in policy and style and has never degraded into the level of violence."
Nograles said Edgar Matobato, the self-confessed assassin who appeared before a Senate hearing on Thursday, "is being manipulated by some people to only serve their own selfish interests."
Nograles did not say who he suspects is backing Matobato.
