MANILA - The Ombudsman has ordered the six-month suspension of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte Mayor Rommel Arnado for grave abuse of authority equivalent to oppression over the forcible entry and demolition of properties in Barangay Tacub in 2013.

Also ordered suspended are security officers Rey Camanian and Lauro Diputado.

The Ombudsman said, Arnado led the local police in forcibly entering and dismantling the houses of private citizen Ibra Sambuat without court order presented during the demolition.

"It appears that respondent Arnado as the municipal mayor, and respondents Camanian and Diputado, committed acts constitutive of oppression in the discharge of their respective functions. By means of threats, violence, or intimidation and without legal authority, they prevent complainant and his family from enjoying their properties," the Ombudsman decision read.

Aside from suspension without pay, Arnadi, Camanian and Diputado will also be charged with three counts each of grave coercion and malicious mischief before the Sandiganbayan.
