Text message confirmed? Aguirre to sue Hontiveros for wiretapping

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre will file wiretapping charges against Senator Risa Hontiveros at the Sandiganbayan, over what he claimed was a violation of his privacy.

Earlier this week, Hontiveros showed photos of Aguirre's cellphone screen that revealed that the justice secretary was asking a certain "Cong. Jing" to expedite cases against the Akbayan senator.

"Hindi ko siya bibigyan ng pagkakataon because that might be considered as a waiver on my part ng constitutional right ko. Mag focus kami doon sa whether she violated my right to private communication," Aguirre told reporters Thursday.

Aguirre said Hontiveros violated the Anti-Wiretapping Act and his right to privacy at least 4 times.

Under the constitution, the Sandiganbayan is a special court that has "jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases involving graft and corrupt practices."

Aguirre said he will also file a civil case before the Regional Trial Court and seek for damages.

An ethics complaint will also be lodged against Hontiveros, the justice secretary said.

In an interview on ANC's Headstart Wednesday, Hontiveros said she was unfazed by Aguirre's stack of legal complaints.

"Bakit siya nagpo-protesta na nilabag yung privacy niya? May sina-cite pa siyang batas. Is he therefore confirming na totoo yung text messages na iyan?"

"If they are fake messages, why should I be accused of illegally intercepting them? Ano ba talaga ang kuwento? Totoo ba yan o hindi totoo?" she added.
