PANGASINAN—The driver of former Pangasinan governor and representative Amado Espino Jr. passed away Thursday night, a day after they were ambushed by unidentified assailants in San Carlos City, Pangasinan.
Agapito Cuison died while undergoing treatment at the hospital for multiple gunshot wounds, Pangasinan police chief Redrico Maranan said Friday.
Unidentified assailants on board 2 vehicles waylaid and opened fire at Espino's convoy in Barangay Magtaking late Wednesday afternoon.
Cuison managed to bring Espino to a nearby hospital despite being wounded.
One of Espino's police security escorts, PO3 Richard Esguerra, was killed on the spot.
The former lawmaker was in stable condition and recuperating in the hospital, together with few others.
Authorities have formed a special investigation task group to investigate the incident.
