MANILA - A member of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) was arrested after allegedly extorting money from a "rent-tangay" victim.
The suspect was identified as SPO2 Lian Manalo, a police assigned in HPG Calabarzon in Camp Vicente Lim, according to Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr., chief of PNP-Counter Intelligence Task Force.
Manalo was caught in the act of receiving P2,000 marked money in exchange for releasing the complainant’s vehicle, which was one of those recovered from the “rent-tangay” modus.
Caramat said the victim sought help from the PNP-CITF, which immediately set an entrapment operation.
The suspect will be charged with robbery extortion and a corresponding administrative case.
