MANILA – The House of Representatives and the Senate on Tuesday approved on third and final reading separate bills postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to the fourth Monday of October 2017.

A total of 218 voted in favor of House Bill 3504, while four opted against it. There were zero abstentions.

Senators meanwhile gave 20 affirmative votes and two negative votes for Senate Bill No. 1112.

If there are no clashing provisions in the two bills, the resulting proposed law can be sent to the president for signature, making it his first law.

SB 1112 was the first bill to be approved for the 17th Congress.
