MANILA - Coalition Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacanang convenor Bonifacio Ilagan said the recent gaffe involving a Facebook post by the Official Gazette on the birth anniversary of former President Ferdinand Marcos showed an insidious attempt at revisionism.

"Ibig sabihin, talagang hell-bent, the Marcoses are hell-bent on returning to power and in so doing, ginagawa nilang perversion ang pagkaunawa ng ating kasaysayan," said Ilagan.

(The Marcoses are hell-bent on returning to power. In doing so, they have perverted our understanding of history.)

"I read 'yung Official Gazette and it's very categorical na si Marcos ay peacefully umalis ng Pilipinas para maiwasan ang pagdanak ng dugo. That's an outright lie because sabi nga ni Bongbong sa kaniyang kampaniya, sila daw ay pinalayas at gunpoint. May comics kasi siya inilabas, at gunpoint they were forced against their will to fly out sa Pilipinas at pumunta ng ibang bansa. Which is which? It is an insidious manner of revising history," Ilagan recounted.

(I read the Official Gazette and it's very categorical that Marcos peacefully left the Philippines to avoid bloodshed. That's an outright lie because according to Bongbong himself, they were held at gunpoint. According to the comics released by Bongbong's camp during the campaign, their family was forced to leave the country. Marcos initially thought they were being taken to Paoay (Ilocos Norte), but they were actually going to Hawaii. These are blatant lies. It is an insidious manner of revising history.)

Ilagan said he wants accountabilities exacted.

"It is not an honest mistake, I think.

(It is not an honest mistake, I think. They deliberately did it. I am glad many people did not allow this kind of historical revision to happen. It was a subtle attempt to revise history.)

Meanwhile, ACT Teachers Party-List Rep. Antonio Tinio said he was not surprised at what happened.

"Well, una alam natin open supporter ni Marcos si Pangulong Duterte. Openly, itinutulak niya 'yung paglibing sa Libingan ng mga Bayani, so 'di tayo magugulat na merong ganiyang lumabas mula sa Office of the President," Tinio said.

(President Duterte is openly supporting Marcos. He is opnely pushing for his interment at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. So, I was not surprised that something like that would be released by the Office of the President.)

Tinio put the blame on the education system's failure to educate the public about what transpired during the Marcos administration.

(Secondly, there is a need to understand where President Duterte and the Official Gazette are coming from. Unfortunate, these sentiments are shared by a good number of people who find the Marcos atrocities to be unclear. The Marcoses have committed several crimes against the country, such as human rights violations and accumulating billions in ill-gotten wealth. These remain unclear to many. It is the fault of our education system. The justice system has basically failed to make the Marcoses and their cronies accountable for their wrongdoings. That is why there are people who undermine the Marcos dictatorship. That is why we have issues like these at the moment.)
