Barangay councilor allegedly on drug watch list shot dead 1

ILOCOS SUR – A 41-year-old barangay councilor in the town of Magsingal was shot dead on Sunday.

The victim, Darwin Tiri, was in front of their house in Barangay San Julian having a drinking session with three companions when motorcycle-riding criminals shot him several times.

Tiri sustained bullet wounds in different parts of his body, causing his death.

Recovered from the crime scene were eight empty shells of a caliber .45.

No one was able to identify the gunmen as they were wearing bonnets.

According to Magsingal Police, the victim was on their drug watch list and was one of their high-value targets.

Tiri was also among those who had voluntarily surrendered to the police to clear his name.

The town chief of police, Inspector Arcadio Viloria, said that prior to the killing, he had received information that Tiri returned to drug pushing.

They are now investigating if Tiri's connection to illegal drugs might be related to the crime

"Tinitignan natin ang koneksyon nito sa illegal na droga kahit kasi sumuko na siya, may mga natatanggap ang station na mga inpormasyon na patuloy pa rin siya sa pagbebenta," Viloria said.

The victim’s family refused to give any comment on the incident.

This incident in the town of Magsingal was the sixth shooting incident in Ilocos Sur since Friday. Other shooting incidents happened in the towns of Bantay, Nagbukel, Sinait, Tagudin and San Juan.

All of the victims were shot dead, with four of them considered as drug suspects.
