MANILA- President Rodrigo Duterte is unlikely to place the entire country under military rule when he speaks on a live tête-à-tête Tuesday afternoon, his chief legal counsel said.

Asked whether the President will declare martial law or extend his declaration of a state of emergency, chief Presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo simply responded: "I don't think so."

For his 3 p.m. tête-à-tête on Tuesday, Duterte will answer questions from Panelo in a "showbiz-type press conference."

"What I know is the President wants to speak up on current issues affecting the nation," Panelo said.

Duterte's televised conversation with Panelo comes at the heels of several issues hounding the government, including the soaring prices of food due to the quickening inflation and the revocation of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s amnesty.
