Residents and officials in Ilocos Norte mounted various activities Monday as they marked the 100th birth anniversary of the late President Ferdinand Marcos.

In Marcos' hometown in Sarrat, Mayor Remigio Medrano led loyalists, local government officials, senior citizens, teachers and students during a wreath laying ceremony at Marcos' monument.

They also sang "Padapadakam," an Ilocano birthday song, for the late dictator.

As part of festivities for Marcos' centennial birth anniversary, policemen and officials of the provincial government also attended a flag raising ceremony at the Ilocos Norte capitol in in the neighboring Laoag City.

Agricultural supplies and equipment were distributed after the event to some 10 farmer groups.

Patients at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City received free services like chemodialysis and electrocardiogram tests.

Malacañang has declared a special non-working holiday in Ilocos Norte to give way to Marcos' birthday commemoration.

His supporters and critics also assembled at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City, where he was buried in November.
