ILOILO CITY - Suspected drug lord Melvin Odicta and his wife, Meriam, were laid to rest in their hometown in Iloilo City on Sunday.
The bodies of the slain couple were brought from their house to Immaculate Conception Parish. All taxis and vans owned by the couple joined the procession, with black flaglets displayed on each unit as an expression of grief for the loss of the couple.
Relatives, friends, employees and residents of their barangay also flocked to the church.
During the Mass, Barangay Captain Noel Odicta, Melvin's brother, thanked the local police for providing security during his brother's wake.
The Odictas had just alighted from a roll-on, roll-off vessel on August 29 when an unidentified assailant hailed bullets at them.
Police rushed the couple to the Malay District Hospital, where they were declared dead by an attending physician.
Authorities have yet to identify the people behind the killings.
Melvin was considered a high-value target by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). The couple had denied they were involved in illegal drugs.
