MANILA - The Liberal Party may have as many as 6 names in its senatorial slate for the 2019 midterm elections, Marikina Representative Miro Quimbo said Monday.
Three names are sure to be in the list including reelectionist Senator Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino, former congressman Erin Tañada and lawyer Jose Manuel "Chel" Icasiano Diokno, founding dean of the De La Salle University College of Law.
Reporters then rattled off three other names such as former senator Mar Roxas, former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and actor Dingdong Dantes.
On Roxas, Quimbo said: "Hindi pa pinag-uusapan. Pinag-iisipan pa niya but certainly if he wants to run he is absolutely welcome."
Quimbo added the party has yet to reach a decision regarding Dantes and Sereno.
He also stressed that these names are still the subject of conversations, adding the LP may not come up with a full 12-man slate.
“Masusing pinag-uusapan 'yung pagkakaroon ng isang lineup para sa darating na eleksyon. We are conscious of the deadlines that are being set forth by [the Commission on Elections] as well ng ating batas pero masusi din nating tinitingnan na 'di natin kailangan magpatakbo ng buong 12 slate kung kinakailangan," he said.
"Maraming nag-apply pero tingin namin ang importante ay bawat isa will represent the vision of the Vice-President at saka will represent the vision of the LP. Sa bawat araw na papalapit ang deadline pinag-uusapan din ang coalition with other parties. Magkakaroon ng coalition with other parties or other political movements," he added.
