Fire hits Pasay building

MANILA (UPDATE) — Fire hit a hotel under construction at the Newport City commercial and residential complex across the Manila airport in Pasay City Friday afternoon.

Authorities said the fire started on the roof deck of the Sheraton Hotel, where welding work is being done. The hotel is part of the expansion of Resorts World Manila (RWM).

The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.

In a statement, the RWM management said the fire began at 3:33 p.m.

"No injuries have been reported. Property damage was limited to the newly installed cooling tower," the statement read.

Operations in Newport City remain unaffected, it added.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire was put out at 4:20 p.m. --Report from Michael Delizo and Christian Esguerra, ABS-CBN News
