CEBU—President Rodrigo Duterte said Friday hundreds of families displaced by a landslide in Naga City, Cebu will receive permanent houses for free.
"I am mandating everyone in government who are listening to me now and to those who have difficulty in hearing. Listen very carefully. A house and lot will be given to all of you for free," he said in a speech during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Naga Permanent Housing Project.
The National Housing Authority (NHA) will construct some 192 houses at the 2-hectare portion of the Balili property in Barangay Tinaan.
Beneficiaries will get a housing unit with a floor area of 26 square meters. The project is expected to be completed in the next 6 months.
Acting Naga City Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong said some 418 families were relocated from the danger zone, but only 213 availed the housing units. Other displaced families opted to take some P150,000 worth of financial assistance.
