MANILA- President Rodrigo Duterte will host Singapore President Halimah Yacob next week to mark the golden anniversary of diplomatic ties between Manila and Singapore.

Halimah, the first female president of Singapore, will be in the Philippines from Sept. 8 to 12 for a state visit, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.

The 2 leaders are set to hold bilateral talks on Monday, Sept. 9, to discuss areas of concern such as political and economic ties, culture and people-to-people engagement.

“The State Visit will mark the apex of this year’s celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Singapore,” the DFA said.

While in the Philippines, the Singaporean leader is also scheduled to visit Duterte’s hometown Davao City, where she is set to hold a dialogue with Mindanao youth and see the Philippine Eagle Center.

Singapore was Manila’s second-biggest foreign investor last year, with investment commitments at P21.18 billion, data from the Philippine Embassy in Singapore showed.

There are over 200,000 Filipinos living and working in Singapore, the embassy said.
