MANILA - Authorities are investigating an incident where two baggage inspectors allegedly stole cash from a Taiwanese passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last week.

The Office for Transportation Security (OTS), in a statement, identified the personnel as Security Screening Officers Nievel Gorpe and Reinelle Alvarez, who allegedly stole $2,600 from the passenger on August 30.

Initial investigation showed that Gorpe violated standard operating procedure when he searched the passenger’s bag without the owner's presence, the agency said.

Charges have been filed against Gorpe, while authorities are still looking to identify others who may be involved in the incident.

"We cannot tolerate corruption, inasmuch as we cannot stand having these kinds of people entrusted with the security of the riding public," OTS Administrator Usec. Arturo Evangelista said.
