MANILA - The House justice committee on Tuesday unanimously ruled that the impeachment complaint against the 7 Supreme Court justices who voted in favor of the ouster of then Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is sufficient in form.

The magistrates who are facing impeachment raps are Associate Justices Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Francis Jardeleza, Noel Tijam, Andres Reyes Jr., and Alexander Gesmundo, as well as Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-de Castro.

The complainants argued that these magistrates committed culpable violation of the Constitution for usurping the power of Congress to impeach the highest official of the Supreme Court.

Before the House committee ruled on the sufficiency in form, Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Alfredo Garbin moved to consolidate 7 separate impeachment complaints in order to expedite the proceedings.

The panel suspended the session before proceeding to the determination of sufficiency in substance.--with reports from Vivienne Gulla, ABS-CBN News
